WhatsApp is going to end support for mobile phones which are running a very old version of software. By the end of 2016, WhatsApp will be ending support on the following mobile platforms:
- BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10
- Nokia S40
- Nokia Symbian S60
- Android 2.1 and Android 2.2
- Windows Phone 7
- iPhone 3GS/iOS 6
There is no need to panic because it going to affect a very small number of devices.
Yesterday, WhatsApp updated their blog, clearly stating that those who have Nokia S40, Nokia Symbian S60, BlackBerry OS or BB10 will continue to support for WhatsApp’s service till June 30, 2017.
But those of you are still running Android Gingerbread, iOS 6 or Windows phone 7 you might want to consider getting a new smartphone.
The reason behind ending support for older phones was that they don’t offer the kind of capabilities that WhatsApp needs to expand their app’s features in the future. So if you use one of these affected mobile devices, please consider upgrading to a newer phone by the end of 2016 to continue using WhatsApp.
